classmates in JonOu Senior
High School, assigned me easier
ones, like wiping the blackboard during
my first months. This is not what I wanted. They thought it might make me
uncomfortable or I was not used to do these chores (which is partly true,
because in France students do not clean school facilities). After my hard
working, I got a bigger role – to be a the team leader in charge of cleaning
the restrooms, finally! Haha! I felt being recognized and became one of them.
I’m Emma not ‘the foreigner Emma’! It did mean a lot to me.
Actually I had a great time with my classmates when doing cleaning –
we worked together, made jokes to each other which brought us closer.
Someone could probably live in Taiwan for 10 years but could not
experience half of what I had in the year.
Have you ever performed dragon dance? To participate an inter-class
volleyball competitions in a Taiwanese high school? Do you know why we
only eat one side of the fish during dinner of Lunar New Year Eve?
Everything I learned, experienced make this RYE program so special and
meaningful. Until now the year in Taiwan still has a huge impact on my life. I
am still able to communicate in Chinese, feel comfortable being in unfamiliar
environment, and most important of all, there are people in Taiwan whom I
can call family and friends. Taiwan is always in a very special place of my
heart!
This revisit to Taiwan made me feel warm and energized. I’m ready
for my next journey. See you my family, my friends and Taiwan ! See you
soon!
