Remarks for the RI Theme
RI President’s Representative
Young Suk Yoon
The Rotary foundation Trustee
Good afternoon everyone!
PRIP Gary Huang and his first lady Corina, PRID & TRF Trustee Jackson Hsieh and his wife
Juliet, PRID Frederick Lin and his wife Chen-Yi, and Today’s Star District Governor Chi-Hsiun
Kuo and his wife Cecilia, Past & Current Governors, Governor-elect, Governor-nominee and
Fellow Rotarians, and Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a great honor and a privilege for me and my
wife Seung-Ja to be at this wonderful District 3522 Conference. On behalf of RI President Ian
H.S. Riseley and the first lady Juliet, we would like to convey their personal greetings and their
best wishes to you all for a great district conference. And we'd like to also thank you for your
generous reception and hospitality during our stay here in Taiwan. And I'd like to also extend
the greetings from all Rotarians of the district 3650.
As you know, your District 3522 and my District 3650 have a special sister relationship since
2015-16 fiscal year, and I look forward to seeing many meaningful collaboration projects
between the two districts in the coming years.
Before I continue, I would like to mention how proud I am to represent Ian for your district,
which is a symbolic example of successful district model in Taiwan.
In addition, you have also great leaders such as your current governor Paul and my friends
such as PRID Jackson and Frederick, and your TRF Endowment/Major Gifts Advisers Henry
Chang, not to mention many other great leaders in your own clubs. You should also be proud
of your district’s continued membership increase, and also the fact that your female population
is well over 30%, which is far greater than 20% in Korea. Your district is also very active in
terms of attracting young people through Interact and Rotaract programs and I am very proud
of your district. You should be also proud of all the services you have provided and many
global grants you have implemented over the years, both domestically and internationally.
It has been a respectful quest for doing good in the world by embodying the Rotary Motto,
Service Above Self.
Now I would like to talk about the Future of Rotary.
As you know, RI President Ian Riseley unveiled the 2017-18 Presidential Theme, ‘Rotary:
Making a Difference.’ Making a difference is for the opportunities that we all have in
serving our communities ---- the opportunities to stand by those who are in desperate need
of our help, the opportunities to speak and take actions for the right causes that will solve the
problems in our communities, and opportunities to strive for our commitment to continue our
service in the Six Areas of Focus.
And of course, one of the most important opportunities is completing eradication of polio
throughout the world.
